Attention! ANATEL in Brazil issued new certification requirements for products containing RF modules

On October 10, 2022, the Brazilian National Communications Administration ANATEL issued official document No. 218/2022. This document gives a normative explanation of the definitions of removable RF modules and non removable RF modules, and puts forward clear requirements for the certification and approval procedures of different types of products containing these two types of RF modules. Details are as follows:

Remarks:

Definition of detachable RF module - The RF circuit of this type of module is connected with the main PCB circuit through soldering or slot, which can be disassembled.

Definition of non detachable RF module - the RF circuit of this type of module is part of the main PCB circuit and cannot be disassembled.

At the same time, the document also provides supplementary instructions on the specific mode of module certification, pointing out that for non telecommunications products containing removable RF modules (without the need to realize their main functions through RF modules), if their modules have passed certification, they can be exempted from testing and obtain product certificates in the following two ways:

1. Directly use the COH certificate of the module to apply for the product certificate

2. Directly use the test report of the module to apply for the product certificate

This document will come into force on December 7, 2022, and will effectively regulate the approval process of Brazilian module certification and complete machine certification. Since then, some non telecommunications products, such as TV, household products, lamps and lanterns, which do not need to realize their main functions through RF modules, can apply for product certificates through module certification.
